Thirty Years Young

While most companies that have been in business for more than a generation will tout that fact and flash those numbers around, we here at Century Ambulance Service, Inc. take a different approach. Yes, we have been in business for more than thirty years, but in our business it takes time to refine the complex issues related to the delivery of excellent ambulance transportation.  We like to think of ourselves as thirty years YOUNG.  In the field of ambulance transportation, like technology, research is always improving medical care, medicines, and technology. Unlike most private ambulance services, Century is attuned to these changes and is constantly looking to find the best treatment for our patients. While tried and true has its place in our field of business, there are many improvements that come out yearly.

In medicine, like technology, research is always improving medical care, medicines, and technology.  Unlike most private ambulance services, Century is attuned to these changes and is constantly looking to find the best innovative ideas to improve patient care.  While tried and true has its place, in our business there are many changes that must constantly be evaluated for their value to enhance patient transportation.  Our protocols and guidelines are constantly under review.  We are looking for better ways to bring the best in changes in technology or methodology to our patients.  We pass these changes and innovations on to our crews through training and implementation as well as updating our written guidelines.  One of these changes was in the form of a concept in stretcher design.  While it is true that a stretcher that is 20 years old may provide adequate and safe transfer of patients to facilities, the lifting of those patients has caused countless back injuries throughout the EMS fields and is a large contributing factor to rising workman's compensation costs and disability of ambulance personnel.  In order to reduce these costs overall we were one of the first ambulance services in the nation to introduce into service the Stryker Power-Pro XT .  This stretcher uses an electric and hydraulic lift system to help eliminate back injuries and help bring down the overall cost of ambulance transportation.  We became one of the first privately owned ambulance service to implement these stretchers fleet wide.  Since then our back injuries have decreased by more than 90% as well as other stretcher related incidents.  We evaluate all of our equipment innovation decisions with the following considerations.  Will it improve patient care and safety?  Will it improve employee safety?  So are we 30 years old?  No, we are thirty years young and striving to maintain that attitude of growing younger with each passing year.  With age comes wisdom and with wisdom comes the knowledge of the value of youth.
