Neonatal and Pediatric Transport (NICU/PICU)
Century Ambulance Service, Inc. has over the years become partners with all the children's hospitals in the region including St. Jude's Hospital, UF & Shands Children's Hospital, and Wolfson Children's Hospital. We now provide all the regional pediatric and neonatal critical care transports along with their PICU and NICU response teams. Working together we are able to quickly provide critical care needs to children in outlying counties and hospitals without pediatric or neonatal services. We operate 4 units designed for this specific purpose and have dedicated teams that have been specially trained to work with the hospital's teams and have cultivated relationships which have only increased their abilities to work together quickly anticipating each other's needs to provide the best care for the child's benefit.
Our main NICU/PICU unit can hold up to 2 patients and crew including a max of 6 crew. These units act as a mobile PICU/NICU complete with DVD player for the child's comfort on the runs which often last more than 8 hours round trip. Due to the size of the cavitron (incubator), which include a built in ventilator with air mixer, the stretcher holding it is a custom Stryker cavitron stretcher with hydraulic lift. The unit also carries a portable ventilator for pediatric patients with spare battery and power converter. The unit has a drug supply which includes most of the drugs needed for a pediatric patient as well as specialized resus drugs for neonates. These units were designed for the comfort of not only the patiens but the crew also, with air shocks and a smooth ride and climate controlled box.
